Group 4 Tools: Online Concept Mapping

 Digital Tool: Online Concept Mapping
Benefits of online concept mapping in the classroom
  • Develop an understanding of a body of knowledge.
  • Explore new information and relationships.
  • Access prior knowledge.
  • Gather new knowledge and information.
  • Share knowledge and information generated.
  • Design structures or processes such as written documents, constructions, web sites, web search, multimedia presentations.
  • Problem solving opportunities.
  • Engaging (not the conventional way of concept mapping).
Furthermore, online concept mapping supports learning as it allows the organisation of information to suit each students' prior knowledge and per-existing ideas.

All online learning tools explored this week reflects the constructivist learning theory where there are opportunities for learners to engage in creative and collaborative activities that encourage knowledge building. If learners are enabled to have choice in what they create, they are more likely to be completed invested in the activity and therefore have ownership of their own learning. Learners have their own personal learning style and skills and therefore a learning environment that is enriched is essential to allow for numerous learning styles and representations of knowledge acquired.

Below is a concept map I created with the online tool called Bubble.us, reflecting on Prezi, PowerPoint and Glogster.  I found this tool great as it was quick and easy to use with great options to instantly save or print work.
